St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic has moved to a new home and will soon have a new name: The Waukesha Free Clinic at Carroll University.
The clinic, 237 Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Waukesha, opened April 3, and is providing virtual care for uninsured, underinsured and low-income patients. Carroll bought the 9,000-square-foot building last year, and will use the main floor and lower level of the building while the free clinic leases the top floor.
“We’re looking forward to building on our premier Health Sciences programs and providing the community with essential health and wellness services, while also educating our future healthcare providers,” said President Cindy Gnadinger.
Carroll’s
physician assistant studies and
nursing program’s faculty and students will help provide additional medical services through the free clinic. And new services related to long-term health, wellness and independent community living will be added by the Carroll nursing,
occupational therapy,
public health and
physical therapy programs.
After 42 years at its old location, the new space triples the clinic’s former space and will allow for expanded services. “Carroll has been a wonderful partner for us,” said Executive Director Kathy Becker.
The clinic is preparing to help new patients who may have lost their job and insurance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We anticipate a significant increase in our neighbors requiring assistance, and we are committed to being there for them during this crisis to provide quality and compassionate care,” said Dr. Elizabeth Davies, medical director for the clinic.
